Careers in the Curriculum

Teaching students about different careers throughout the school curriculum is incredibly important for a number of reasons, including:

  • Showing students a range of different career options
  • It makes subjects more relevant to students – Career and progression pathways from the subject made more visible.
  • It enhances our all-though curriculum.
  • Student Parliament and student voice have asked for more careers education in their subject lessons
  • It prepares students for life after school – ‘Creating Tomorrow’s Citizens Today’
  • Research shows careers education in lessons has a significant impact, especially on young people’s personal effectiveness (self esteem , motivation) and career readiness (career exploration skills)

Teachers across the all-through school will highlight careers education in their lesson using the following logo:

It is also really important that students see the importance of Maths and English and Science when planning their next steps. Thee websites below provide more information about how the topics learnt in these subjects link to different careers:

Maths https://www.mypathcareersuk.com/maths-why-bother

English https://www.mypathcareersuk.com/english-why-bother

Science https://www.mypathcareersuk.com/science-why-bother
